Vancouver Olympics 2010: American Snow Boarding Hopes a Win

THE OPENING ceremony for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics is just around the corner, and final details are hurriedly being worked out in Whistler and venue attractions throughout the Vancouver region.
Americans have dominated Olympic snowboarding since it debuted in 1998 at Nagano, Japan, and have expectations soaring high ahead of the Winter Olympics.
“We are going in to the 2010 Games with one of the strongest athletic lineups possible,” US Snowboarding coach Peter Foley told news agencies on Wednesday . “We’re hoping to go into Vancouver and build on the successes we saw in 2006. This team is in position to do great things.”
Reigning snowboardcross champion Wescott will be joined by five-time X Games champion Nate Holland, 2006 Olympian Graham Watanabe and newcomer Nick Baumgartner.
Lindsey Jacobellis, who settled for silver at the 2006 Olympics, returns to the women’s snowboardcross lineup as a favorite, joined by Olympic newcomers Faye Gulini and Callan Chythlook-Sifsof.
Vancouver International Airport will be the first stop for more than 230,000 Olympics-bound athletes, officials, coaches, support teams and out-of-town visitors, and it is taking its role as the city’s front door very seriously. All private aircraft heading to Vancouver will have to land in a “gateway” airport before going to Vancouver.
Thorough security screenings and searches will be done at the gateways and the aircraft must go nonstop to Vancouver from there.
Customs will be cleared on the ramp at Vancouver International and no one will be allowed to leave their aircraft until after the customs check.
Five Best Snowboard Brands

Depending on what style of snowboarding you enjoy and what level of rider you are, there is a snowboard that will best suite you. While there are many different brands and styles out there, five brands stand out as the best above all others. Lib Technologies, Burton, Never Summer, GNU Snowboards and Jones Snowboards offer superior quality and unique styles for all types, each having their own signature boards and technologies. Because each rider has their own preferences, these companies have gone above and beyond to make sure that everyone purchased is up to standards and fits the rider’s needs.
Lib Technologies are best known for their Magne Traction and Banana Technologies. Magne Traction helps to improve the edge control in icy conditions while the Banana Technology helps with freestyle riding as well as when used in powder conditions. Both freestyle and all mountain boards can be found by this brand. One of the best known and most popular snowboard brands is Burton due to the high number of boards as well outdoor gear that they produce. All ages and types of riders can find a board that is perfect for them including young kids. Bindings can be customized with the Channel System, allowing each rider to adjust everything from the way that the bindings fit to the stance on the board. Never Summer is known for their extensive quality testing that is done on every board before it is sold. There is a three year warranty offered with each snowboard and demo sessions can be scheduled if you are in the Denver area. GNU Snowboards are made by the same manufacturing company as Lib Technologies, and have the Banana Tech boards as well as the Magne Traction. Both the men’s and women’s Park Pickle won awards in 2011 for the ease of making heel side turns. Though it is one of the newer brands, Jones Snowboards does not disappoint. Created by professional Jeremy Jones he uses his knowledge of riding to create snowboards that exhibit quality, strength and stability. Having only been going for one year, several of the boards have already won numerous awards.
Snowboarding Gear

The first layer of clothing, when choosing the proper snowboarding gear is the thermal layer. Choose something like thermal underwear for the bottom part of your body. For the upper part of the body you should choose a long sleeve synthetic material such as polyester or polypropylene. This will help keep the moisture off of the skin, which makes for a happier snowboarder. The most important part of the first layer and key to a good fitting boot is snowboarding socks. This Snowboard Gear is essential to keep your feet warm, dry, comfortable, and padded against hard impacts.
The second layer should consist of polyester, fleece or a wool jacket. Find a good wind pant for the lower part of the body. Choosing one or more layers of this will help in keeping the warm air trapped in close to the body. Now on some days, depending on what part of the world you are snowboarding or the temperature of the area, you can actually get away with only wearing a t-shirt.
The Third layer of clothing is your official snowboarding pant and jacket. You need to find some that will fully protect you from water and wind and should be completely breathable, so that it will allow your bodies perspiration to escape while protecting you from snow, wind and water. Find a good beanie or snowboard helmet to help insulate your body temperature. Now last but surely not least is your boots, goggles, gloves, snowboard bindings and a snowboard that shows off your true personality.
